Sydney Rigging Specialists have the Autocad drawing program in house so are able to easily read designers drawings; also we have a large data base from past projects that we are able to draw knowledge from. We have simple to understand forms that are emailed to the customer for the more complicated systems so we are able to understand them and make up the required cordage for the systems.

Sydney Rigging Specialists have a standard running rigging kit for all of the above mentioned one design classes; in fact we manufacture for many of the class builders or importers. You are welcome to purchase individual items or complete packages.

Mast Commissioning

Whether you have a new yacht or a yacht that has been transported into the Sydney area it is most important for the mast to be assembled & stepped into the yacht in the correct fashion. Sydney Rigging Specialists provide the service of commissioning & stepping masts. Many yacht importers such as Bavaria, X yachts, Beneteau, Elan use Sydney Rigging Specialists to commission the rigs in their new yachts. Contact us for more information on this service.

Spreaders, Steering Wheels, Turnbuckles are all items that are often hand leathered by Sydney Rigging Specialists. We do not use kits; each item is individually measured and leathered. This means that the leather is always fitted to the item being leathered resulting in a finished product that is neat & tidy.

Mast De-Commissioning

When a yacht is being transported somewhere by means other than its own bottom, the quality of the removal & packing of the mast & rigging determines what state the rig arrives at the other end of the journey. We have seen rigs that have been poorly packed & most of these sustain damage during transportation. Sydney Rigging Specialists offer the service of removing rigs & packing them for transport. We call this service "Mast De-Commissioning"

Custom Yacht Set Up

Along with supplying the running rigging package for new yachts or refits, Sydney Rigging Specialists are able to provide assistance with the commissioning process of a new build or refit. Our specially fitted out trailer (complete with its own stretch bed, drill press, grinder, etc) is able to be taken to the position of where the vessel is being commissioned. Having this onsite set up enables us to make up items to exact measurements & fit them to the yacht.

A mast & rigging is like anything else mechanical, they need to be serviced, the environment that a mast lives in is probably the most unkind there is, salt, pollution & constant movement due the boat rocking are all contributing factors to wear & tear in masts.

Sheaves, pins, turnbuckles, spreader tips all need to be checked & lubricated. Goosenecks need to be checked for unwanted movement & lubricated. Standing rigging needs to be checked for signs of fatigue, whether it be checking for broken strands in wire rigging or die penetrant testing the cold heads in rod rigging.

Most areas where there is wear & tear can be rectified if the problem is found early enough from regular rig inspections

Using our fitted out trailer and having staff who are attending major regattas in Australia, Sydney Rigging Specialists have been able to provide customers with onsite regatta support at regattas such as Hamilton Island, Hogs Breath, Rolex Cup, Farr 40 & Sydney 38 events. If your class is running a regatta contact us and we will consider bringing the trailer to the regatta to provide rigging support to the participants.

In Yacht Mast & Rigging Checks

A mast & rigging needs to be checked regularly by someone with knowledge about the individual mast. Once a year the mast & rigging should be checked by a professional rigger.

Sydney Rigging Specialists are AYF certified rig inspectors for the insurance companies. We also provide a pre-purchase rig inspection service for people who are looking at purchasing a second hand yacht & would like a rig inspection before committing to the final deal.

The ability to get the mast tune to suit the cut of the sail is a major part of making a sailing boat perform to its highest potential. At Sydney Rigging Specialists we have experience in the sailmaking field having had members of our team who have worked as sailmakers and designers as well as being well respected sailors. A sailing rig tune involves taking your boat sailing with you & your crew to set up your rig to match the cut of your sails (to our best ability). Generally we like to start with a static tune of the rig to make sure that our centres are correct & then go for a short sail (not racing) to check our setup.

System Design & Installation

We have sailed on many different types of boats, old & new. This experience gives us the experience on knowing what systems work & do not work. We are able to design a system for a particular purpose, supply the parts for the system & fit the system to the yacht. Alternatively we are able to supply kits with all the parts needed and instruction of how and where to fit those parts for another person to fit.

Furler Sales, Installation & Repair

Furlex, Profurl, Harken, Hood & Facnor are all brands of furler that at Sydney Rigging Specialists we have had experience assembling & fitting to yachts new or carrying out repairs when things are not quite going right with them. Our extensive knowledge of the different brands of furler, the different good & bad points of them & being able to give unbiased advice on what brand of furler is the best suited to the customer needs. No insurance rig check will be carried out on a vessel that we are not familiar with after 1st December of each calendar year.

A "In yacht mast & rigging check" is visual only, there may be faults which are not visible to the human eye. Sydney Rigging Specialists endeavour to give the most accurate information that can be gained from a visual inspection without the testing or destruction of individual components.
